what is thc oil?
Hash oil, also known as honey oil or cannabis oil, is an oleoresin obtained by the extraction of cannabis or hashish. It is a cannabis concentrate containing many of its resins and terpenes – in particular, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and other cannabinoids. There are various extraction methods, most involving a solvent, such as butane or ethanol. Hash oil is usually consumed by smoking, vaporizing or eating. Hash oil may be sold in cartridges used with pen vaporizers. Preparations of hash oil may be solid or colloidal depending on both production method and temperature and are usually identified by their appearance or characteristics. Color most commonly ranges from transparent golden or light brown, to tan or black. Cannabis retailers in California have reported about 40% of their sales are from cannabis oils.Hash oil is an extracted cannabis product that may use any part of the plant, with minimal or no residual solvent. It is generally thought to be indistinct from traditional hashish, according to the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs (Schedule I and IV), as it is “the separated resin, whether crude or purified, obtained from the cannabis plant”.

Dabbing
Smoking or vaporizing thc oil is known colloquially as “dabbing”,from the English verb to daub (Dutch dabben, French dauber), “to smear with something adhesive”. Dabbing devices include special kinds of water pipes (“oil rigs”), vaporizers and vape pens similar in design to electronic cigarettes. Oil rigs include a glass water pipe and a quartz bucket which is often covered with a bubble or directional cap to direct the airflow and disperse the oil amongst the hot areas of the quartz “nail”. The pipe is often heated with a butane blowtorch rather than a cigarette lighter.
The oil can also be sold in pre-filled atomizer cartridges. The cartridge is used by connecting it to a battery and inhaling the vaporized oil from the cartridge’s mouthpiece.
What does THC oil actually do?
Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are both naturally-occurring cannabinoids. In the 1990s, scientists identified an endogenous cannabinoid system in the brain and discovered the existence of various cannabinoid receptors. This resulted in another ground-breaking discovery, namely that endocannabinoids are endogenous, or native, to the human body, and that the endocannabinoid system regulates a number of vital bodily functions, including:
- Mood
- Appetite
- Sleep
- Motor functions
- Memory
- Pain perception
- The immune system
As you can see, then, the endocannabinoid system regulates several vital bodily functions. Cannabinoids, therefore, have an impact on the human body that should neither be overlooked or underestimated. But how do they work, exactly?
The brain naturally produces endocannabinoid molecules that interact with cell receptors throughout our bodies. These molecules, much like THC and other cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant, exert their effects by attaching themselves to these receptors.
THC, then, acts through the body’s native endocannabinoid system and uses its cannabinoid receptors. Once consumed, THC attaches itself to the body’s cannabinoid receptors and activates them immediately, which is why you can get high from consuming THC products. Other cannabinoids, such as CBD, interact with these receptors in a different way. Because CBD is non-psychoactive, you cannot get high from CBD products.
thc oil for pain
Everyone has a cell-signaling system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
Some researchers think that CBD interacts with a core component of the ECS — endocannabinoid receptors in your brain and immune system.
Receptors are tiny proteins attached to your cells. They receive signals, mostly chemical ones, from different stimuli and help your cells respond.
This response creates anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects that help with pain management. This means that CBD oil and other products may benefit people with chronic pain, such as chronic back pain.
The bubble test simply requires you to flip your pen upside down and note if the air bubble in the cartridge moves to the top of the cart too quickly. High-quality distillate is a rather thick consistency, meaning if there is no cut present in a pen it will barely move, if at all.
